FACES OF VIET NAM
The Montegard people of North Vietnam live with in their own culture groups and speak their own language. They integrate into the population minimally. These tribes were pushed out of southern China 200-300 years ago. Similar tribes in the Central Highlands help American troops during the Vietnamese war. They paid a dear price for that help. The people are very shy and reticent. It was only with the help of a dear friend, Son Nguyen, that I was able to photograph them. I consider it a great privilege.

ENGLISH CATHEDRALS
English gothic cathedrals are to me not unlike the slot canyons of the desert southwest of the United States. This project, which extended over a number of years, was inspired by an important photographic mentor, Bruce Barnbaum. Awe inspiring and monumental, the cathedrals represent an amazing tribute to the persistence and tenacity of the human spirit.

DUNES
Dunes fascinate me and they always have. They are the quintessential subject matter for a black and white photographer. Death Valley California is the logical starting place. But there’re also great dunes in Oceana California and Great Sand Dunes National Park in Colorado. They are an unending myriad of form and texture. Like snowflakes, no two are alike.
