The Montegard people of North Vietnam live with in their own culture groups and speak their own language. They integrate into the population minimally. These tribes were pushed out of southern China 200-300 years ago. Similar tribes in the Central Highlands help American troops during the Vietnamese war. They paid a dear price for that help. The people are very shy and reticent. It was only with the help of a dear friend, Son Nguyen, that I was able to photograph them. I consider it a great privilege.
